ASA is committed to:
Providing extracurricular English language instruction to under-privileged children living in the Rocinha favela (slum) of Rio de Janeiro.
Providing scholarships to children in desperate need to attend the UMPMRS daycare center.
Our goal is to help lift children out of poverty by providing them
with the necessary skills to enter the labor market. As English is the
global language of business and tourism, both of which are key elements
of the Brazilian economy, learning English will help children
gain access to better jobs.
Our program teaches literacy skills from an early age and lays the foundation for further success in public school. It also increases the likelihood that the child will finish school.
Our program offers older students insight into the connection between education and improved employment prospects, and those who participate in structured after school programs are less likely to drop out of school and more likely to stay off the streets.
An education that is relevant and purposeful has the power to change lives.
