Up to the age of 4, children can attend the daycare center in the UMPMRS school in Rocinha where ASA currently offer its English Program. At the age of 4, compulsory school begins and the children may return to the center for after-school English instruction. In this case, the parents pay a nominal fee (the equivalent of CHF 5.00 per year). ASA pays a local teacher's salary, one dedicated specifically to providing English classes at the center. In addition, ASA pays for all materials associated with the English program such as books, teaching materials, website subscriptions, paper, arts and crafts materials and furniture, as well as teacher training and Cambridge exam fees.
ASA's English Program began in January 2016 to children and youth at the União de Mulheres Pró-Melhoramentos da Roupa Suja (UMPMRS) daycare center in Rocinha.
UMPMRS is located in the Roupa Suja section of the Rocinha favela (slum) and has been in operation for over 20 years. Rocinha is the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and one of the largest in South America.
